Discover the 17th and 18th-century French court performances, with Weriem,
visual artist and costume designer specializing in baroque opera! Following the work of
the illustrators of Kings Louis XIII, XIV, XV, and XVI, we will examine the fantasies of
ballet and opera costumes. We will discuss the important rules and symbols used in
costumes and their evolution over these two centuries.
Presenter:
WERIEM is a French and Tunisian artist praised for her « gorgeous
and evocative», « spectacular » and « sumptuous array of period-perfect »
costumes by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune,
respectively. She has a decade of experience in designing costumes for live
performances (Royal Swedish Opera, the Boston Early Music Festival, Haymarket
Opera, Opera Lafayette, among others).
Simultaneously, WERIEM's artistic journey has encompassed various
commissioned illustrations. In 2022, she embarked on a new chapter in her career
as an independent visual artist, selling her original art and prints to art enthusiasts
both in-person throughout Chicago and worldwide. Prior to delving into the arts
and relocating from France to her current home in Chicago, she earned a PhD in
science from Université de Lille, France. Currently, she is working on a new
collection of original art pieces.
