Food in Times of Crisis

(Zoom Only)

Program: In times of crisis, what do people who have been affected by a crisis do for food? World Central Kitchen (WCK) responds to natural disasters, man-made crises, and humanitarian emergencies around the world by providing food to affected people and communities.

Founded in 2010 by celebrity chef Jose Andres, WCK has provided over 200 million meals in countries around the world, including in the U.S. and here in Chicago. WCK has received commendations for its work from a number of notable figures, including Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey. In 2018, Chef Andres was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with WCK.

Presenters: We are honored to welcome Kristi Katz, Head of WCK Direct, who will tell us more about WCK’s history, mission and impact and Sarah Stegner, award winning chef and co-owner of Prairie Grass Café in Northbrook and part of the Chef Corp for WCK, who will moderate our discussion.
