European Culture: Finnish Design – The Story of a Country

Finnish designers and architects were the key to the national identity of Finland and really put the

country – which only became independent in 1917 – on the world map. Inspired by nature and the snow and the forests, Finnish design has changed our interiors and led the international success of nordic design. From Eliel Saarinen and Alvar Aalto to Marimekko and Harri Koskinen, Rafaela will tell how this designing spirit was born and evolved until today.

Speaker: Rafaela Seppälä, Lisa Antelo´s sister, lives in Finland and is a founding member of the Foundation for the Kiasma Contemporary Art, and is currently a member of the board of the Finnish National Gallery (museums) and the listed media company Sanoma. For the past 20 years, Rafaela has collected contemporary art with her gallerist husband as well as Finnish design.
