Program: A Woman of Research - "Globalization is Older than You Think"
Presenter: Dr. Lisa Niziolek, Boone Research Scientist in Asian Anthropology at The Field Museum
Dr. Lisa Niziolek's current research focus is ancient maritime trade in East and Southeast Asia and processes linked to globalization. She has been uncovering artifacts from a Javanese shipwreck from 800 years ago. The variety of found artifacts, including pieces of glass from the Middle East and Egypt show evidence of early maritime trading. This research not only contradicts the euro-centric model of globalism but shows that ancient cultures were far more connected than previously thought.
