Film: 'Elle', French film directed by Paul Verhoeven (2016). Isabelle Huppert plays Michele, the CEO of a video game company. We see and hear her being assaulted during the opening moments of the film. A man in a black mask breaks into her home and assaults her as her pet cat watches impassively. The director is interested in every step she takes about the rape, and is interested in the psychology and behavior of this woman. Isabelle Huppert was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, and nominated for Best Actress at Palme d'Or and won the Best Actress at the Golden Globes, among others.
